The U.S. Labor Department reports initial jobless claims fell by 6,000 last week to a seasonally-adjusted 462,000. However, the four-week average, which is considered a better indicator, increased to 475,500 last week from 470,500 the previous week. According to a report released by global outplacement consultancy firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., job cuts in February were at their lowest level since 2006. Things are looking up in Washington state. Officials say the state added 12,400 jobs in January, which is the first monthly gain in employment in Washington since November 2008.
