Bassett Furniture Cutting 50 Jobs

Bassett Furniture Industries is eliminating 50 jobs company-wide and closing a warehouse. The company’s headquarters in Bassett, Virginia will see ten of the jobs cut. Struggling bookstore chain Borders is cutting 742 retail positions in its more than 900 stores, or about 3% of its workforce. Virginia Employment Down Slightly

Virginia has posted its first-ever year-over-year negative job growth. The Virginia Employment Commission says statewide employment in December was 3.8 million, down 0.8% from the same month in 2007. Job growth even stalled in Northern Virginia, the Commonwealth’s strongest-performing region.
