Sunoco Shuttering Damaged Plant, Laying Off 50

Sunoco is permanently closing its ethylene unit at its Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania refinery, after the facility was damaged in an explosion and fire in May. Fifty workers will be laid off. Deere-Hitachi Construction Machinery will to cut 553 employees’ hours by at least half at its Kernersville, North Carolina plant. The production slowdown will last until at least September. Alcoa has reached a deal with the New York Power Authority to delay and defer payments in order to reduce the number of planned layoffs.
