The State of New York lost 189,000 private sector jobs between August 2008 to April 2009, according to the state labor department. New York’s April unemployment rate stayed flat at 7.7%. It was 4.9% in April 2008. New York City’s rate was also nearly unchanged from March, at 8%. It was 5% a year ago. Share This Story:

The United States lost 539,000 jobs in April, the lowest job loss rate since October 2008. But the nation’s unemployment rate rose to 8.9%. It was 8.5% in March.
