Cable sports channel ESPN is laying off 100 employees at its Bristol, Connecticut headquarters. ESPN Chief Executive George Bodenheimer announced layoffs in January. A spokesperson says that new hires should keep the workforce level. ESPN, a subsidiary of Walt Disney, employs about 5,400 people worldwide, including about 3,400 at the Bristol campus. Radio and advertising conglomerate Clear Channel is laying off 590 people in its radio division, and suspending its 401(k) matching plan.
