Manufacturing Jobs Down 8.2% in North Carolina

The 2010 N.C. Manufacturers Register reports employment in North Carolina’s manufacturing sector was down 8.2 percent in January as compared to January 2009. According to the report, North Carolina lost 51,831 industrial jobs last year, which is the biggest drop in the publication’s 16-year history in the state. ArcelorMittal To Slash 171 Steel Jobs

Citing “extraordinary economic conditions,” steel company ArcelorMittal is set to lay off 171 steelworkers at its tin mill in West Virginia. Telkonet Moving 50 Jobs to Wisconsin.

Maryland’s loss is Wisconsin’s gain. Telkonet, a maker of efficiency products, is moving its headquarters along with 50 jobs from Maryland to Wisconsin as part of a broader cost saving plan.
