23 states saw an increase in their jobless rate last month. 43 states lost jobs in September while only 7 states saw an increase. California Unemployment Highest Since 1941

California’s unemployment rate skyrocketed to 11.2% in March, the highest since before World War II. The national rate was 8.5%. The Employment Development Department says 2.1 million Californians are out of work. The state lost 62,100 jobs in March; and 637,400 jobs since March 2008. Berkshire Hathaway Will Cut More Jobs in 2009

Gazillionaire Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway cut staff last year in half of its operating units, and says more job cuts are coming. The deepest cuts came in businesses tied closely to the housing market. Clayton Homes, a manufacturing housing unit, eliminated 2,290 jobs, or 16%, to end the year with 11,998 workers. Fannie Mae Fires “Hundreds” in DC, Hires in Dallas

Fannie Mae, the mortgage-finance company now under direct Federal control, cut several hundred jobs today at its Washington headquarters as it adds workers elsewhere to combat rising foreclosures.
