Detroit Metro Airport will cut as many as 59 positions by October. Layoffs are being considered. The airport employs 659 workers. Airlines Cut Tens of Thousands of Jobs

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that airlines lost 6.6% of jobs since February, 2008. It’s the eighth straight year of US airline job loss. Only Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airlines increased their overall workforce since February 2008. Delta/Northwest now employs 73,100, down 4,800 from last year.
