New claims for unemployment insurance fell last week to 466,000, the lowest mark since September of 2008. Even as new claims start to slow down, the unemployment rate continues to nudge upwards. The National Retail Federation believes the current Congressional stimulus bill promoted by President Barack Obama does not do enough to immediately stimulate consumer spending or to preserve the tens of millions of jobs that consumer spending supports.
