American Airlines will cut capacity in late August, and eliminate 1,600 jobs. American will reduce capacity 5.5% on international routes, and 7.5% domestically. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that airlines lost 6.6% of jobs since February, 2008. It’s the eighth straight year of US airline job loss. Fort Worth-based American Airlines’ regional affiliate American Eagle will lay off 75 pilots. Also, 45 management positions will be cut in 2009, in addition to 30 management positions already scheduled to be eliminated.
