Commercial Metals Co., which based in Irvin, Tex., is closing its construction-materials plant in Hope, Ark. Between 50 and 60 people were notified by the company’s president and CEO that their last day on the job will be April 29.
Commercial Metals had already laid off 60 workers in January because of a decrease in demand for its products, the Dallas Morning News reports. The facility in Hope produced lightweight steel joists that were used in construction of large retail stores.
Commercial Metals was founded in 1915 and has locations around the world.
