Pennsylvania’s Governor, Ed Rendell, announced today that the state would be forced to furlough 1,000 employees if the legislature does not approve a measure allowing its new casinos to offer table games by the end of the week. Currently, Pennsylvania casinos only offer slot machines while competing casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, have both table games and slots.
Pennsylvania has a $250 million hole in its budget according to the Governor, who is counting on increased tax revenue from the casinos to make up the difference.
