Central Maine Power, a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, announced it will cut 40 nonunion jobs. This is part of a larger company wide lay off expected to eliminate 140 jobs in the Northeast. Employees were released on Friday “in an effort to better align the company’s operations with current business needs” according to spokesman Clayton Ellis. He went on to say the decision was difficult but it’s “an essential step given today’s economic conditions”.
Lay offs will impact every Iberdrola facility in the U.S. except Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas, as the workforce in these locations are receiving a separate evaluation. Iberdrola USA additionally operates New York State Electric & Gas, Rochester Gas and Electric, Berkshire Gas and alternative energy supplier Energetix.
