Symmetry Medical, a manufacturer of implants and orthopedic devices, is closing a factory in Auburn, Maine, and cutting an undisclosed number of jobs. The move is part of a broader cost cutting plan as the company faces weaker demand for its products. Production from the Auburn plant will be moved to other locations. Currently, Symmetry employs about 2,700 people.
