nevada_160x120California’s SolarReserve is planning on building a solar power plant near Tonopah, Nevada, with a twist. The project involves using salt to store solar energy, for those less than sunny days.

The project still needs to be approved by the Bureau of Land Management which owns a majority of the land in Nevada, and the Public Utilities Commission. If approved, construction could begin by the end of 2010 and be completed in two to three years. SolarReserve says the plant will supply power to 75,000 homes in Nevada and bring in thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

SolarReserve was founded in Santa Monica, California, in 2008 and has already staked a large claim in Nevada’s burgeoning solar power industry.
