Daimler AG, maker of Mercedes-Benz cars, is shifting production of its C-class from Sindelfingen to its plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Alabama plant will begin producing the C-class in 2014, when a new version is due to be introduced. The company expects to save 2000 Euros per car produced thanks to a cheaper dollar and the reduced costs of bringing the car to the American market.
As many as 3,000 employees in Sindelfingen may lose their jobs, and over 1000 jobs are expected to be added in Alabama. The company will also invest in the expansion of the plant, creating additional jobs during the expansion.
