Sprint Nextel is planning to trim 2,500 jobs across the entire company with many of the layoffs coming before the end of the year. The company is also planning to cut back on the number of outside contractors it uses. No specifics were given in the latest announcement but Sprint has said in recent weeks that some layoffs were likely to come in its wholesale operations due to lack of growth in its landline business.
Earlier this year sprint cut 8,000 jobs and transferred 6,000 more to Ericsson, a network equipment company.
