missouriflag_160x120Like most states, Missouri is facing a budget crisis. As part of a cost saving effort to cut $230 million in state spending, Missouri is cutting 700 state jobs.

Medicaid payments to hospitals, nursing homes, doctors and mental health providers are being cut by $32 million. Schools in Missouri are being hit twice, first with a $16 million cut in transportation support and then by an $11 million dollar cut to broadband services and online “virtual education” in elementary and secondary schools.

“This isn’t Washington,” said Governor Nixon in announcing the cuts at a Capitol news conference. “We don’t get to print money.”
