Livonia,michiganflag_160x120 Michigan is facing a $1.4 million reduction in state shared revenue for 2010 under state budget provisions that were approved on Wednesday. This amount is nearly $1 million more than the city had anticipated. According to Mayor Jack Kirksey, approximately 14 layoffs will be required to make up the difference.

State Representative John Walsh said that a decrease in property tax revenue, as well as declines in other revenues were to blame for the budget gaps. Overall, lawmakers in Michigan were left with a $2 billion spending gap to close.

Since last year, state revenue is down 23 percent.

“These are hard cuts,” Walsh said. “The ones I worry about are social services and the state funding for Boys and Girls Clubs, Meals on Wheels, and Medicaid reimbursements.”
