American icon Harley-Davidsonhas decided to outsource some “noncore” jobs to suppliers. These will include things such as chrome plating and stamping of parts, but the company will continue to do all assembly, metal fabrication and painting in house. The cuts will come at its assembly plant in York County, Pennsylvania, but Harley-Davidson is considering moving that plant to Indiana, Kentucky or Tennessee and expects to make a decision in December.
According to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 98, as many as 400 jobs may be lost due to the outsourcing plan.
