Electrolux Exporting 850 Iowan Jobs to Mexico

electrolux_160x120Home appliance maker Electrolux is closing down two factories in Iowa by spring of 2011 and expanding an existing plant in Juarez, Mexico, to make up the difference. 800 people work at the factory in Webster City, which will close early 2011, and 50 more are employed at a smaller facility in Jefferson city, which will close before the end of 2010.

Electrolux’s North American major appliance operations are based in Augusta, Ga. The company is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The company had 55,000 employees in 2008, of which 8,000 were in the U.S.
