Dallas, Texas’ Parkland Memorial Hospital began cutting 200 jobs this week, in an effort to balance its $1.1 billion budget for 2010.
Ninety-nine employees have been served layoff notices — the rest of the positions are currently vacant.
The layoff go into effect at the end of September. Those targeted can apply for other positions with the hospital.
Founded in 1894, Parkland Memorial Hospital is the main hospital of the Parkland Health & Hospital System (officially, the Dallas County Hospital District), and serves as Dallas County’s public hospital.
