Delaware to Eliminate 500 State Jobs

delawareflag_160x120The State of Delaware will eliminate 500 jobs through attrition. There will not be layoffs.

State Republicans wanted 600 jobs cuts — the final number was decided through negotiations with Democratic Governor Jack A. Markell.

The deal with save the state $13.7 million in payroll next fiscal year.

The First State currently employs 31,500 people on the payroll, including 13,500 public education employees.
