GEGE Consumer & Industrial is negotiating with IUE-CWA Local 761 to gain concessions the firm says would save existing workers from layoffs, and create 100 new jobs in Louisville, Kentucky.

The concessions would include a pay freeze to June 2011. The plant manufactures major home appliances.

One hundred hourly employees at GE Consumer & Industrial have accepted a voluntary buyout package. In March, 4,400 people worked for GE in Marion.
