Airlines Cut Tens of Thousands of Jobs

United AirlinesThe Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that airlines lost 6.6% of jobs since February, 2008. It’s the eighth straight year of US airline job loss.

Only Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airlines increased their overall workforce since February 2008.

Delta/Northwest now employs 73,100, down 4,800 from last year. American lost 3,300; and United lost 6,600.

ATA Airlines, which went out of business entirely in 2008, laid off 2,189.
